Sound BitesProject Outline:
The project required us to design a 15-minute interactive sensory experience that explores how sound, visuals, and taste influence perception. Working in groups, we had to conceptualise a live performance, prepare a series of bite-sized food pairings, and curate three sound-visual segments based on different themes or genres. Each cycle involved live food preparation, projected audio-visuals, and audience participation, where viewers tasted the food and reflected on whether their expectations matched the actual flavour experience. The challenge was to treat food as a medium of design, using timing, mood, and sensory cues to shape how people feel, interpret, and respond within a controlled atmosphere.
Sound Bites is an interactive performance exploring how taste, sound, and visuals influence perception and class associations. Through a live cooking setup paired with projected audio-visual sequences, audience members were invited to taste bite-sized food immediately after experiencing curated sound and imagery, prompting them to reflect on expectation versus reality.
This project pushed me to think beyond visual design and consider how experiences can be orchestrated through multiple senses. For the Classical segment, I designed a minimal, solitary visual atmosphere paired with refined audio cues to mirror themes of exclusivity and emotional distance. Working across video editing, live performance logistics, and audience engagement tools, I learned how design can extend into timing, mood-setting, and sensory storytelling, creating an experience that goes beyond the screen.
