Triptych Self portrait

Project Outline:

The project required us to design a 15-minute interactive sensory experience that explores how sound, visuals, and taste influence perception. Working in groups, we had to conceptualise a live performance, prepare a series of bite-sized food pairings, and curate three sound-visual segments based on different themes or genres. Each cycle involved live food preparation, projected audio-visuals, and audience participation, where viewers tasted the food and reflected on whether their expectations matched the actual flavour experience. The challenge was to treat food as a medium of design, using timing, mood, and sensory cues to shape how people feel, interpret, and respond within a controlled atmosphere.

I explored self-portraiture as a narrative tool, requiring us to create a three-part visual series responding to past, present, and future self.

Voyage is a triptych self-portrait series that traces my emotional journey from childhood solitude to present-day connection and into an uncertain future. Instead of depicting events directly, I expressed feelings through symbolic staging, subtle gestures, and colour temperature shifts. The past is shown through a quiet silhouette with hints of playfulness, the present through warm tones and reflections symbolising the people who now shape “my world,” and the future through a hazy, distorted portrait wrapped in translucent cling film, reflecting both fear and curiosity toward what’s ahead. The work functions as a visual map of self-growth—intimate, unresolved, and still evolving.
